LAURIUM — Ardell Sever, 79, passed on to be with his heavenly family on February 24, 2018. He was surrounded by his loved ones at the Lighthouse in Hancock. Death is attributed to a long battle with COPD.
He grew up in the Copper Country and is remembered for his quick smile, friendliness and sense of humor. He was an avid bowler and daring fisherman for many years. He was nicknamed “Sam” (Samson) for his amazing strength.
He worked in the copper mines until they closed and was an excellent carpenter and mechanic who could fix anything. He attended Sacred Heart Church in Calumet while his health allowed it.
He married Patricia Boston of Detroit in 1965 and had four children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rosana (Stukel) Sever; four brothers, Earl, Ernie, George and Aloysius; and one sister, Charlotte.
He is survived by three sisters, Lillian of Marquette, Lenore and Darlene of Laurium; two brothers, Darriell (Margaret) of Mud Lake and Kenneth of Calumet (special friend, Lisa); his children, Duane (Mary) of Calumet, Bruce of Laurium, Michelle of Allouez and William (Laura) of Atlantic Mine; his grandchildren, Kristy, Nichole, Heaven, Ryan, Jesse, Sammy, Jasmine, Seth, Odyssey, Sage, Sebastian, Gabe, Caleb, Xavier, Jonah, Aria, Ernie, Oliver, Scarlett, Brody, Kai, Melody and another on the way.
The funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Ryan Funeral Home in Calumet on Saturday, March 3, 2018, with Rev. Fr. Joseph Boakye Yiadom to officiate.
Friends may call the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
