Guido G. Paoli
ATLANTIC MINE — Guido Paoli, 98, a long time resident of Atlantic Mine, passed away on February 4, 2018, at UP Health System-Portage.
He was born in Hancock, in 1919, to the late Tisbe and Guilio Paoli.
He spent his early years in Hancock, later moving to South Range when his family opened a grocery store there. He graduated from Painesdale High School in 1938.
He worked in the family business until he enlisted in the U.S. Army at the start of WWII and spent most of his time in Alaska.
After leaving the army, he returned to South Range, where he married Lucille Santori in 1946 in Holy Family Catholic Church. She preceded him in death in 2000.
In 1954, Guido went to meat cutting school in Ohio, and then returned home to run the meat department in the family grocery store.
Guido was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church of South Range; a charter and lifetime member of Ranger Post 6165 VFW of South Range, and a member of Alfred Erickson American Legion Post 186 of Hancock. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and in later years, watching sports on TV, especially the Packers, Tigers and Red Wings.
Besides his parents and wife, Guido was also preceded in death by his sisters, Linda (Joseph) LaRoche, Angeline (Clifford) Paulson, Julia (Joseph) Pleshe; a brother, Lido (Mary Ann) Paoli; and a brother-in-law, George Stimac.
Guido is survived by one daughter, Mary Lou (Richard) McMonagle; one granddaughter, Kim (Randy) Rasmussen of Marathon, Wisconsin; two great-grandsons, Reid and Nolan Rasmussen; one sister, Lida Stimac; one brother, Joseph (Arbutus) Paoli; numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 8, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in South Range, with Fr. John Martignon as celebrant. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. on Thursday in the church. Burial with military rites will be held in the spring at the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range.
Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church in the name of Guido Paoli.
