Miriam Jean Rolof Robinson

L’ANSE — Miriam Jean Rolof Robinson, 94, of L’Anse, passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Bayside Village in L’Anse.

Miriam was born March 24, 1924, in Copper City, daughter of Albert and Rose (Schmidlin) Rolof.

She grew up in Pequaming and graduated from L’Anse High School in 1943.

Miriam worked in a defense plant in Detroit during WWII, then returned to L’Anse and worked as a secretary at Northwoods Timber Co.

She married Charles Robinson on June 25, 1945, at Sacred Heart Church in L’Anse. They lived in Arlington, Virginia, for one year, then moved to Wayne, where they raised their children, retiring back to L’Anse in 1981.

Miriam and Charlie enjoyed traveling together, playing card games with friends and visiting their kids and grandkids.

Miriam was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and was a Eucharistic minister, visiting nursing homes and hospitals and distributing communion. The Church was very important to her.

Since the 1970’s, Miriam has done volunteer work for St. Vincent de Paul, Bishop Baraga Shrine, Muscular Dystrophy, Sacred Heart School and Christian Women’s Breakfast for Sacred Heart.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking, music, jigsaw puzzles, games and being around people with humor.

Surviving are her son, Stephen (Heidi) Robinson of Bristow, Virginia; daughter, Carla (Jeff) Straw of Traverse City; brother, Ted (Dorothy) Rolof of L’Anse; sisters, Rosemond Bianco of L’Anse, and Cecelia (Dale) Tembreull of L’Anse; sister-in-law, Nancy Rolof of Keweenaw Bay; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Charles; daughter, Cecelia Soleau; and brother, William Rolof.

Visitation will be on Saturday, June 30, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.

Her funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. with Fr. Corey Litzner officiating.

Burial will be in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
