Janet M. Wentela

ISHPEMING — Janet M. Wentela, 88, formerly of York Street in Ishpeming, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2018, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.

Janet was born on August 17, 1929, in Ishpeming, to Gust Holm and Myrtle (Carlson) Holm. She graduated from Ishpeming High School with the Class of 1947.

She worked for State Farm Insurance Company as a claims adjuster for 25 years, retiring in 1996.

Janet was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church, where she spent numerous hours volunteering in the office and enjoyed being a member of the quilters group.

Janet also volunteered for the Bell Hospital Auxiliary, where she worked in the gift shop. Over the years, she generously donated 98 pints of blood to help others.

Janet enjoyed spending time at Burger King and having coffee with friends after her daily workout at the gym. Janet also enjoyed being a member of TOPS, where she served as secretary for a number of years.

Janet was adventurous, enjoyed traveling and spending time with her three daughters. Janet’s grandchildren meant the world to her, and she enjoyed spending time with them and always had homemade cookies for them when they came to visit.

Janet is survived by her daughters, Jean (Gary “Dewey”) Ayotte of Appleton, Wisconsin, Judith (Allen) Niemi of Houghton, and Peggy (Ray) Chapman of Ishpeming; six grandchildren, Lee Ayotte, Wayne Ayotte, Mark Ayotte, Kelly Butler, Melissa Fitzgerald and Jason Chapman; nine great grandchildren; special friend, Milo Palm; along with nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Francis Wentela.

Janet’s family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating.

A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.

Interment will be in the Ishpeming Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Janet’s grandchildren.
