Emelia ‘Lee’ Niemitalo
SOUTH RANGE — Emelia “Lee” Niemitalo, 94, of South Range, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, with family and friends by her side.
She was born on July 28, 1924, in Painesdale, the daughter of Basilio and Carmela (Masini) Bianchi.
She was united in marriage to Norman Niemitalo on May 18, 1946. He preceded her in death on May 19, 1977.
Lee was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church of South Range where she taught religious education for several years. She was a member of the Daughters of Italy and a former member of Ranger Post 6165 VFW Auxiliary of South Range.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Lou (David) Wisti; two grandchildren, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Wisti of Tennessee, and Christina Wisti of Atlantic Mine; two great-grandchildren, Brianna and Zachary of Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Mary Bianchi; nieces, Carol Niemitalo, Kathy Dianda and Jeannie Dianda; a great-nephew, Scott (Debbie) Dianda; and a great-niece, Jill (Steve) Auger.
Besides her parents and husband, Lee was also preceded in death by a sister, Meri Dianda; a brother, Dante Bianchi, and a brother in-law and sister-in-law, Sal and Marie Bianchi.
The family would like to express heart filled thanks to the staff of Woodland Haven and the 3rd floor staff, for the excellent care they provided during Lee’s stay. She was always treated with love and respect, as was everyone who came to visit her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019, at Holy Family Catholic Church in South Range, with Fr. John Martignon to officiate.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019, in the church.
Spring burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range.
