Gerald R. Ollanketo
HANCOCK — Gerald R. Ollanketo Sr., 75, a resident of Calumet, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility.
He was born on July 22, 1943, in Hancock, to Isaac and Mildred (Hendrickson) Ollanketo. He attended the local schools. He then moved with his family downstate, where he graduated from Ferndale High School in 1962.
After high school, Gerald enlisted with the United States Army, serving in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1967, as a Staff Sergeant.
Gerald was a lifetime member of the William Giroux American Legion Post 90 in Lake Linden, a lifetime member of the 30 Armored Division, and a member of the Knights of Columbus 1245 of Calumet.
He is survived by his sons, Gerald Ollanketo Jr of Ironwood, and Christopher Ollanketo of Germany; his daughters, Heidi of Baltic, Holly of Atlantic Mine, Heather of Chassell, and Karen Ollanketo of Germany; 17 grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Per Gerald’s request, cremation has taken place and no services will be held at this time.
The Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Burial will take place in the Lake View Cemetery.
