Robert James “Jim” Longpre

CALUMET — It is with great sadness that the family of Robert James “Jim” Longpre, 96, announces his passing on Thursday, November 22, 2018, in Tucson, Arizona.

Jim was born in Calumet, on December 2, 1921, son of the late Nelson and Florence (Toms) Longpre. He graduated from Calumet High School in 1941.

He served in the United States Army during World War II, before going to work for Calumet & Hecla Mining Company for many years, and later for White Pine Copper Company in White Pine, from which he retired in 1985.

Jim was an active member of the C&H Fire Department and enjoyed participating in local fireman’s tournaments. He loved to hunt and fish, and to work on renovation projects around the house, always staying busy and active his entire life. He was the most loving and caring family man, and doted upon his children and grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Margaret Gabriault; brother, William Longpre; daughter, Mary Claire Longpre; and wife, Beatrice (McKenzie) Longpre.

He is survived by two daughters, Terri (Tom) Drielick of Tucson, Arizona, and Tammy Longpre of Greenville, South Carolina; as well as one son, Patrick (Sarah) Longpre; and two grandchildren, Ashleigh and James Longpre, all of Stanley, North Carolina. Also surviving is a special niece, Sharon (Gabriault) Szetela of Mesa, Arizona.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Odilia Catholic Church in Tucson, on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, with Fr. R. Miguel Mariano officiating.

Interment and Rite of Committal followed at Boulder City Cemetery, in Boulder City, Nevada, on Thursday, November 29, 2018.
