Brian E. Kemppainen

CALUMET — Brian Edward Kemppainen, 62, a resident of Calumet, passed away following a brief illness on March 15, 2019, at the Omega House with family by his side.

He was born October 18, 1956, in Detroit, a son of the late Jerleen (Fleury) and Clarence Kemppainen.

Brian was a 1975 graduate of the Jeffers High School, and attended the Devry Institute of Technology.

On September 2, 1978, he married Deborah Haataja in Atlantic Mine. They had two children and eventually parted ways.

Brian worked as a commercial painter. He enjoyed fishing and sports, and was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and Detroit Red Wings.

Brian is survived by his son, Eric Kemppainen of Atlantic Mine; his daughter, Sarah (Brandon, Sr.) Mukavetz of Hancock, and their children, Dorian, Dexter, Gabrielle and Brandon, Jr.; brothers, Mark (Ellen) Kemppainen of Denmark, Wisconsin, and David Kemppainen of Green Bay, Wisconsin; a sister-in-law, Rosanne Poisson of Houghton; his former wife and mother of his two children, Deborah Haataja of Atlantic Mine; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, Brian was also preceded in death by a brother, John.

Funeral services will be held May 22, 2019, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic Mine with times to be announced at a later date. Burial will be in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery.
