Interstate truck fire extinguished
DETROIT (AP) – The tanker truck that exploded and caught fire on a downtown Detroit interstate has been extinguished but some ramps and a stretch of freeway remains closed.
Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw says crews remain where the tanker truck carrying 9,000 gallons of unleaded fuel exploded about 8:45 a.m. Sunday. The driver wasn’t hurt, but Interstate 75 at I-375 remains shut down.
Shaw says the Michigan Department of Transportation must determine the stability of the I-75 overpass before it can reopen. He adds that the trucker told investigators mechanical problems caused his vehicle’s back tires to lock up and for the tanker to overturn.
