Toys for Tots was successful

To the editor:

We extend a grateful thank you to everyone that helped to make the 2013 Toys for Tots campaign a success. We thank the hundreds of individuals who contributed the toys in our donation boxes, and we recognize the following organizations who were major supporters of this year’s campaign: Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, Zion Lutheran Church in Skanee, Pizza Hut, Michigan State Police, Highland Clan Motorcycle Club, Copper Country Mall, Calumet High School ROTC, Houghton High School Student Council, Portage Health Systems, Sew Sisters, Joey’s Seafood and Grill, Americinn in Calumet, Student Success Center at Michigan Technological University, Superior National Bank, Houghton County Bar Association, Rockland Depot, Rousseau Bar, Kevin’s Self Storage, WalMart and Shopko in Houghton, Shopko Hometown in Calumet and L’Anse.

This was the 15th year that the Keweenaw Detachment of the Marine Corps League has conducted a local campaign in support of the National Toys for Tots Program. Each year the community has responded with generous donations of toys and financial support. This year the combined efforts of individuals, organizations, and businesses enabled us to provide 4347 toys to 1142 needy children in the four-county area.
