First year of CLK baseball
To the editor:
As the fortunate coaches of Calumet High School’s first year of varsity baseball, we would like to take our hats off to some of the people who made this season and this program possible. Our thanks first to Mr. Darryl Pierce and the CLK School Board for approving baseball as a CHS varsity sport for 2016, and to Mr. Sean Jacques for doing so much work behind the scenes to get this program up and running.
A huge thanks to Keweenaw Automation, Keweenaw Title Co., Koppers, Royale Inc. and Wolverine Baseball for their very generous donations to help buy equipment for the team. Thanks to the Calumet All Sports Booster Club for their kind support and to Paul Lehto and Calumet Township for so graciously allowing us to use their beautiful field at Wolverine.
Thanks to the faithful fans who attended our games, to Houghton Broadcasting and the Daily Mining Gazette for all the great coverage, and to the parents of these outstanding young men for supporting our program and allowing us to coach these wonderful young athletes.
Finally, thanks to our fantastic players who showed up for weeks of late-night practices with smiles on their faces, all for the chance to represent Calumet High School on the baseball field. You made us proud in every game and in every town we travelled to. Thanks for being outstanding players and sportsmen, and for giving us the privilege of being your coaches this year.
