Support county med care facility
To the editor:
On August 2 the Houghton County Medical Care Facility will seek a six-year millage renewal of 2.55310 mills. This is not a request for an increase, but a renewal of the levy that has been in place for the past six years.
County medical care facilities were created in 1939 to be the safety net for Michigan’s most vulnerable citizens in need of nursing home care, regardless of their ability to pay. Our current services include long-term care, skilled nursing, rehab/therapy and memory care.
The Houghton County Medical Care Facility has received strong community support in the form of a millage over the last 30-plus years. This represents approximately 10 percent of our budget and has allowed us to continually improve our facility as well as the quality of care and services provided to our residents by approximately 300 employees from our local communities. We have always been grateful for this community support provided to the facility, and we are asking again for your support on August 2 for this millage renewal.
