Giving without seeking credit

To the editor:

The Committee of Helping Hands of Keweenaw would like to thank our community for a successful fundraiser, continuing to add to our future sustainability. There are many entities and individuals to thank for this success.

We offer thanks and blessings to the following local businesses who through their donations kept our soup & sandwich lunch cost free!

American Forest Management, Connie’s Kitchen, Drift Inn, Eagle Harbor Inn, Econo Foods, Fifth & Elm Coffee House- Houghton, Holiday Station – Calumet, Hut Inn, Jimmy Johns, Jim’s Pizza – Calumet, Lassila Insurance Agency, Loading Zone, McDonald’s Restaurant, Mohawk Superette,  Sara Lee Bakery, Slim’s Café,  UPPCO, Zumba Fitness with Bobbie and Kristen-Group Fitness w/Mike,Ltd., and White House Inn.

We also thank CLK Schools for the rental of their Horizon school bldg. and the support & expertise of staff — David Luokkonen and Mike Hale.

We thank Bethany Quilters for their quilts to raffle.  We thank area radio stations promoting our event.

We thank those who helped with extra publicity — Daily Mining Gazette feature story by Kurt Hauglie, and TV6 feature with reporter Ansley Wattson.

We thank the Bethany Lutheran Church Sunday School and Confirmation kids and parents who supported our bake sale and also provided students on our lunch day to assist elderly, bus tables and help clean up.   Then there are workers from Bethany Lutheran Church and from our local community who gave time to help with preparations, provided bakery and helped with food prep and serving during the Jan. 21 event.

What a blessing to be a part of this Keweenaw community who gives without seeking recognition.  What a blessing to be able to give back to Keweenaw members in need through Helping Hands.
