New substance abuse program
To the editor:
In the past few weeks there have been a number of articles in the paper concerning overcrowding in the jails and because of this people are being put back on the streets. The police are feeling disgusted because of all the work they are putting into this situation is for nothing. There may be a solution to this problem.
For the past three years there has been a group of people working together to open an alcohol and drug treatment center like New Creation was. The new program is called Dawn of a New Day Addiction Ministry and the program is a 501(c)(3) non-profit ministry that will provide a 90-day to one-year in-house treatment program. With the help of the community, our local government, and grants we hope to find a place to work with the people with drug and alcohol addictions. We will not only serve Houghton County but also Keweenaw, Ontonagon, and Baraga counties that have the same problem of jail space. We need people who have a heart for this kind of work and are willing to work making changes in people’s lives in our towns and cities. If you want more information about this ministry or wish to donate to this important cause you can go to dawnaddictionministry.org or contact Rev. Roger Jenkins at 523-5066.
