Help in fighting sawmill blaze

To the editor:

On behalf of Penegor Lumber Company, we would like to thank all those who helped in any way on the night of Dec. 28 when our family sawmill was destroyed by fire.

Thank you to the firefighters of Twin Lakes, Toivola, Greenland, Chassell, Hurontown and Adams Township for your prompt response and dedication in fighting the large fire in challenging conditions and frigid temperatures.

An additional thank you to Chief John Reynolds and the Twin Lakes fire department for staying on the scene all night to monitor the fire.

Thank you to the first responders, ambulance personnel and Red Cross volunteers for being on hand to offer support for the firefighters and other assistance including directing traffic, etc.

Thank you to those in the community who offered support, and especially Barb and Walter Tahtinen for their immediate response to call 911. Your quick actions may have contributed to the ability of the fire fighters to contain the fire to the structure and not endanger surrounding buildings or personal residences. To the Johnsons from the Parkview, the Saurs from Krupp’s mini-mart and the McDonald’s restaurant of Houghton for your donations of coffee, food, water and other drinks to support the firefighters throughout the night. Thank you also to those who offered kind words of support through emails, texts, phone calls or personally by stopping by in the days following.

Although a devastating loss for our family and employees, we are especially thankful that no one was injured and are comforted by the amazing support.

With sincere gratitude to all,
