Reaching out for wheelchairs

To the editor:

I am reaching out to friends, family and people of the Copper Country for help!

If you have a motorized wheelchair that you no longer need and it is in good working condition and is mechanically sound (battery is good and control units is operational) please consider donating it to the Houghton County Medical Care Facility. It has residents who are in need of motorized wheelchairs but do not have insurance or the financial means to purchase one.

In a conversation with Peter, the head of their Rehab Department, he explained that there are many residents who have difficulty with mobility and the use of a motorized wheelchair would help them tremendously but they just have no way to get one or purchase one.

I said I would do what I could to help get the word out of this need in our community.

He and their facility manager will check them all out to make sure they are in good working order before they make arrangements to receive them.

If you would like to notify them that you have a motorized wheelchair that you would be willing to donate to their facility , please call 482.5050 and ask to speak with Peter in Rehab or Mike with Building Maintenance.

Please help me to spread the word about their need. I know they and their residents will be grateful for your support and generosity.
