DMG reported bar burglary

To the editor:

In the wee hours of early morning April 15, our business and another local business was broken into and robbed! Didn’t see word of it in the paper, hear it on the radio or on the television!

These criminals took our money and our security. A suspect has been caught and is currently lodged in Houghton County Jail. Now starts the justice system. The police did their job.

What makes these loser punks feel entitled to break in and take our valuables? Are we considered insignificant because we happen to own taverns?

Let me tell you a little something about a bar. Our bar is a place for friends to meet and unwind. Our customers have the biggest hearts! In the 54 years my family has owned the L&L we have given tens of thousands back to the community!

My grandma Dolly, mom Jayne and I have gotten out of bed in a snow storm to drive many customers home so they wouldn’t drive! We have given money and raised money for just about every person who has come through our doors and asked.

We are a business, a family business, and I can’t wait to see if justice will be served, because I will be at every hearing.

My mother is elderly and has health issues, and now can’t even sleep at night. So what about it? Bars aren’t your quality business or newsworthy?

Sign me disgusted and fed up!

Editor’s Note: The burglary was reported in the Daily Mining Gazette’s police log on Tuesday, April 17. The alleged arrest was not reported by the Calumet Police Department, nor does the Houghton County District Court release information on what charges individuals have been arrested on until a trial is completed. The DMG reports all crime and court information that police and criminal justice agencies release.
