Empty buildings for veterans

To the editor:

In the past month, the news has reported that over $90 million is being spent downstate for V.A. facilities. We have a facility in Marquette and Iron Mountain but why not one here?

The VA clinic in Hancock has over 700 patients. On M-203, there is a facility that was assisted living but is no longer in use and sits empty and soon will fall apart from neglect, like so many other buildings around here (think Moyer Clinic on Houghton/Baraga line) and Camp Kitwin.

Why couldn’t some of that VA money be used to update this building for our much deserved veterans?

Please, if you care about our veterans in the Keweenaw, call our local and state representatives and voice your opinion on this subject. Thank you!
