Pine Mountain festival went on

To the editor:

Pine Mountain Music Festival just completed its 28th season! it was a whirlwind of 17 performances in five venues through Houghton, Dickinson and Marquette counties, over a period of two weeks. Four young Upper Peninsula musicians, “the UPstarts,” joined returning artists from the Bergonzi String Quartet, a Schumann art song recital, international flamenco dancer, Karyne Arys, with instrumentalists in “Alma Flamenca,” and a cast of musicians and artists for “Taste of Carmen” programs along with two riveting productions of the full “Carmen” opera.

Thank you to the business sponsors and advertisers in the three counties, the donors, local, national and international artists and musicians, volunteers in various capacities, including those who housed over two dozen performers in their homes over the two weeks.

All of this occurred while Copper Country residents–including some members of our casts, staff, and volunteers–were dealing with the devastating results of flood damage.

Festival planners, housing volunteers, and artists were not deterred and extended their best energy and talents to bring on the show. Visiting artists recognized the strength, generosity, spirit and resolve of the Copper Country community.

We sincerely appreciated the audiences, the support, and encouragement. In the coming months, please visit our website, pmmf.org, and Facebook for updates on the 2019 program. See you next summer!
