14th annual kids fishing derby

More than 160 youngsters enjoyed a day of fishing, food and prizes at the 14th annual Calumet-Keweenaw Sportsmen’s Club kids fishing derby held at the Swedetown pond in Calumet on July 21, 2018. Thank you to Greg Nakkula and Mark Johnson for chairing the event. An extra special Thank You to Bruce Harter for gathering donations and prizes for the kids. And Thank You to Calumet Township and Paul Lehto for supporting the purchase of fish planted in the pond. These businesses and individuals provided donations which resulted in prizes ( fishing rods, tackle boxes, gift certificates, etc) for the boys and girls catching the largest fish, 2 bicycles and more fishing rods and prizes in a raffle, a “goodie bag” treat and prize for all participants:

Seeing kids smiling faces after catching a fish (size is immaterial) is very rewarding to all club member volunteers. And one more thank you to the parents/guardians for keeping watch on the kids throughout the derby.
