LWV forums inform voters

To the editor:

The three ballot proposals Michiganders will see on their ballot have certainly drawn a lot of buzz this fall. Legalizing marijuana, redrawing district lines, and updating voter laws are the three questions with which we are faced. Although these proposals may seem simple (whether you support them or not), there are many logistics to navigate should any of these proposals pass on Nov. 6.

If you’d like to learn more about how each of the three proposals would work, what they’d do, or have any questions answered, there’s an information session for you! Join the League of Women Voters of the Copper Country on Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the Portage Lake District Library.

There, each proposal will be explained with pros and cons from each side. This discussion will answer common questions and go into detail about how marijuana would be regulated, who would redraw district lines, and the working of potential updates to Michigan’s voting laws.

It is worth noting that this information session will not contain any time for debating whether or not these proposals should pass. Rather, the League, a nonpartisan citizen’s group, will present pros and cons official groups have expressed regarding each proposal.

We hope you join us for an informative evening of navigating the workings of the three proposals. There is much to learn and much to decide for our state come Nov. 6.
