Helminen to join Hurricanes

A quick note to start off the week. It appears another player with U.P. ties is getting a shot in the NHL. Dwight Helminen, who was born in Hancock, has been called up to the Carolina Hurricanes ahead of their Tuesday game at Montreal. Helminen was playing with the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League, but was called up when Brandon Sutter got a concussion Saturday.

Helminen also played for the University of Michigan earlier this decade and also in Finland.
