Pied-a-terre — pyed-uh-tair (or loosely ped-uh-tair) — (literally a foot to earth) a small apartment or room kept for occasional use

Example: "Jean Rafferty in the N.Y. Times mentioned that 'many people buy a pied-a-terre in Paris to use for a few weeks, then rent it out the rest of the time.'"
