Muckraking — MUCK-rake-ing — the process of searching out and publicizing scandalous information about famous people, in an underhanded way — political or otherwise

Example: "Frederica Sagor Mass published her memoirs as a Hollywood screenwriter, filling it with tales considered scathing or scandalous — perhaps, said The Week magazine, 'the best muckraking memoir about early Hollywood ever.'"
