Halftime Thoughts: Tech-Lake Erie (Men)
February 29, 2012 - Michael Bleach
Mike Hojnacki is not ready to end his collegiate career yet.
The senior forward missed his first open look of the game, but didn't blink from there. Hojnacki finished the half with 15 points to lead Tech to a 38-26 intermission lead.
Hojnacki knocked down 5-of-6 shots, including three 3-pointers, and asserted himself offensively with a satisfying attitude.
At one point in the first half Hojnacki scored 12 of Tech's 15 points, with a repertoire that included an up-and-under post layup, 18-foot fadeaway from the wing and three spot-up threes.
The Ferris State Bulldogs allowed the double-digit lead by missing 7-of-12 free throws and allowing Jerrell Sanders, a 13 percent 3-point shooter this year to attempt three triples in the first half. That is a lot of wasted possessions.
Partially as a result of the many missed free throws and partially because he is a beast, Ali Haidar grabbed 13 boards in the first half.
With Tech' superlative free throw shooting, they only need to play to a draw with Ferris for 15 minutes and they can close the win out from the line at that point.
