Word of the Day — August 5, 2012

August 6, 2012 - Scott Viau
Anachronism — an-AK-roh-NISM — a thing more appropriate in another period, or a thing that is conspicuously old-fashioned

Example: "Again, in A.O. Scott's review of the movie 'Amigo,' he comments, 'Sayles' use of a phrase made notorious during Vietnam may sound a bit anachronistic and overly pointed, but it also reinforces a disconcerting parallel.'"
