Spate — SPAYT — flood, outpouring, inundation, many similar things or events in quick succession

Example: "An article in The Week magazine lists reasons why fracking is dangerous, including: 'There are worries that sloppy techniques by many small, independent companies could cause the release of large amounts of methane and might already have caused a spate of minor earthquakes in regions where dozens of wells are drilled.'"
