Words of the Day — November 23, 2012

November 23, 2012 - Scott Viau
Zeitgeist — tsyt-gyst — the defining spirit or mood during a particular period of history, as shown by the ideas and beliefs of the time antithesis — an-TIH-thih-ses — the direct opposite

Example: "NewsBeast Daniel Gross explains the drop in sales of Hostess brands — Twinkies, Wonder Bread, etc.: 'The product line didn't keep up with a change in the zeitgeist; now we are in the midst of a food revolution focused on local, organic and authentic — the very antithesis of Twinkies.'"
