Haidar named GLIAC Player of Week

November 27, 2012 - Michael Bleach
After going full beast mode on Bemidji State for 35 points in 31 minutes, Tech forward Ali Haidar was named GLIAC Player of the Week. This is not surprising.

What is somewhat surprising is that Haidar also received the award last week, again on the heels of a 30-plus performance against Southwest Minnesota State. Conference Player of the Week awards tend to be somewhat like a kindergarten art contest — everyone wins, even the kid who drew a stick figure and spent the majority of class playing with paste. I cannot recall seeing any winner two weeks in a row. (UPDATE: According to my editor Brandon, when Tech women's star Katie Wysocky played three years ago, she won this so often they should change the name to the Katie Wysocky Memorial Award.)

So I suppose it is somewhat refreshing for the GLIAC to acknowledge that Haidar deserved the recognition two weeks running, when these type of things trend like baseball's MVP — insert Cabrera joke here — full of labyrinth logic and suits-my-purpose rationale.

Yay GLIAC!
