Docent — DOE-SENT — a person who acts as a guide, usually on a voluntary basis, in museums, art galleries, zoos, etc.

Example: "In a public letter from the Keweenaw Heritage Center, which houses a restored pipe organ, a comment is made about aid from the volunteering public: 'The Board is grateful for the many volunteers who gave time as hosts during our open hours, much appreciated, but there is always room for more docents ...'"
