Disdain — dis-DANE — contempt, the feeling that someone or something is unworthy of one's consideration or respect

Example: "Heard over 'Talk of the Town' on NPR: in a discussion about the current stalemate regarding the Jan. 1 possible catastrophe, a political science professor from Yale commented with obvious disdain that the stand-off was bandied about like kids in a childish argument.'"
