Disingenuous — dis-in-JEN-you-us — being insincere, usually by pretending to know less about something than really does Example: "In Anthony Lane's critique of 'Jack Reacher,' he says, 'Reactions to the frequent easy use of guns show respect and responsibility — but to claim that all due respect has now been paid, however, or that all ethical responsibilities have been fulfilled, would be disingenuous ...'"
