HOUGHTON — Lake Linden-Hubbell set the tone early against Houghton Friday. The Lakes took their opening possession in for a score and never looked back en route to a 40-7 non-conference win over the Gremlins. “The kids came out with a lot of intensity,” Lake Linden coach Andy Crouch said. “We ran the ball real well. Our backs ran hard and our line blocked well. It was nice to see us put some points up in the first quarter.” The 1-yard touchdown run by Brandon Sundblad that put Lake Linden up 6-0 was one of three scores the Lakes had in the opening half. Quarterback Logan Chadde accounted for the other two scores. He connected with Kyle Kumpula on a 32-yard touchdown pass and then ran in from 15 yards out to put the Lakes in front 18-0 near the midway point of the second period. The only thing that slowed Lake Linden down in the first half was itself. A pair of Lakes turnovers stopped potential scoring drives. The second miscue was a fumble returned by Houghton’s Dan Schulz
