Tech women roll, Wysocky claims rebound record
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Michigan Tech surged to a 16-2 lead over Missouri Western midway through the first half and never looked back in a 67-37 win at the Drury Classic at Weiser Gymnasium Friday. The No. 1-ranked Huskies limited the Griffons to 29 percent field-goal shooting in the game to improve to 2-0. Senior Katie Wysocky was the story of the game, as she became Tech’s all-time leader in rebounding. The 6-foot forward pulled down 14 boards in the game to run her career total to 875 and surpass Dawn Zarling’s 866. The record-breaking rebound came with 3:30 to play in the opening half. Tech opened the contest by holding Missouri Western to just one field goal through the first nine minutes of action. In the meantime, Wysocky tallied 11 points and Sarah Stream added eight to stake the Huskies to a 37-17 advantage at the half. Tara Ferris and Katie Zimmerman buried 3-pointers to start the second half as the lead grew to 43-19 with 17 minutes to play.
