Baraga duo tops CCC meet

Baraga’s Paul Tahtinen won the Copper Country Conf-erence meet at Calumet Golf Club on Monday with a 77.
CALUMET -- With a top-five finish in the George Young Invitational and a win in a Copper Country Conference meet last week, Baraga’s Paul Tahtinen was, and is, on a roll.
Still, the senior wasn’t thrilled with his medal-winning 77 at Calumet Golf Club on Monday in the second CCC meet of the season. With brisk winds and temperatures that lowered steadily throughout the afternoon, Tahtinen hit 38 on the front nine and added a stroke on the longer tees of the back nine.
“It was cold and … just windy,” he said. “The wind definitely messed with the ball.
“I parred Portage (Lake Golf Course) twice this weekend, so there’s some room for improvement.”
The weather was not so kind to Tahtinen’s competition. Ewen-Trout Creek’s Colin Ahlskog, who lost to Tahtinen by one stroke at L’Anse last week and tied for fourth with him at George Young, struggled with a 91.
