Why don’t Lions pick out of a hat?
By Paul Peterson
Based on their most recent showings in the NFL draft, the Detroit Lions should resort to something out of the ordinary Saturday.
Say, try putting the ten best remaining picks in a hat and then pick one out. The results couldn't be any worse than general manager Matt Millen has managed during his disastrous reign in the front office.
If you don't believe that some teams actually do their homework for the draft, look at what the Super Bowl champion New York Giants accomplished last season.
Picking far down the list, the Giants selected seven players who made their roster and contributed to the surprising success of the team.
The Lions, who have consistently had top-10 picks the last several years, chose "sure fire" star receiver Calvin Johnson last year. Johnson had an underachieving rookie season, following a precedent of first round picks in Motown.
I'm not just talking about the dread
