Albert John Klein

TAMARACK CITY — Albert John Klein, 76, a resident of Tamarack City, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2008, at Our Lady of Mercy in Hubbell after recently transferring from Bayside Village in L’Anse.

He was born on April 3, 1932, in Tamarack City, a son of Albert F. and Marie (Rieger) Klein. He attended St. Cecilia Catholic School in Hubbell and graduated from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in 1949.

He served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean Conflict.

He was the supervisor at the Michigan Tech Central Heating Plant for 28 years, retiring in 1992.

On November 23, 1976, he was married to Mary (Grandchamp) Hakanson.

He was a member of St. Cecilia Church in Hubbell and now St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twin infant sisters, Pauline and Patricia; and a son, David A. on January 11, 2008.

Surviving are his wife, Mary of Tamarack City; a son, Stephen (Carol) Klein of Tamarack City; daughters, Theresa (Mark) Smoter of Manitowoc, Wis., Janet (Paul) Dean of Thailand, and Victoria (Jeff) Krueger of DePere; a daughter-in-law, Carla Klein of Freeport, Ill.; grandchildren, Trevor, Cori, and Alex Klein, Emily and Mike Smoter, Chelsea and Megan Dean, and Erin and Matthew Krueger; a sister, Ann Vollmer of Lake Linden; a brother, Carl (Rita) Klein of Stevens Point, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden with Fr. Francis Dobrzenski to officiate. Visitation will be before the service from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden.
