Tuesday is Election Day

School municipal issues on ballot

HOUGHTON — Elections will be held Tuesday for local school districts, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Some municipal issues will also be on the ballot. Voting locations vary by precinct; call the municipal office or county clerk’s office for locations.

HOUGHTON COUNTY

Adams Township

Two four-year positions ending June 30, 2012: Candidates are Gina Goudge and Darren J. Niemi.

Public Schools of Calumet-Laurium-Keweenaw

Two four-year positions ending June 30, 2012: Candidates are Scott Clayton, Larry C. Kristapovich, Phyllis M. Locatelli and Brian Taivalkoski. Also an operating millage proposal allowing the school district to levy the statutory rate of 18 mills. The estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2008 is about $73,936.

Chassell Township Schools

Two four-year positions ending June 30, 2012. There are no candidates on the ballot. Four candidates vie for the two positions; all are write-in candidates. They are Doug Hamar, Ken Kytta, Carl Olson and Jane Rautiola.

Dollar Bay-Tamarack City Area Schools

One four-year position ending June 30, 2012: Candidates are Donna Engman and Brandon Lockhart-Witting. Also an operating millage proposal allowing the school district to levy the statutory rate of 18 mills. The estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2008 is about $28,199.

Elm River

Township School

One four-year position ending June 30, 2012: Candidate is Susan Mallow. One partial term position ending June 30, 2010. Candidate is Denise Saari. Also an operating millage proposal allowing the school district to levy the statutory rate of 18 mills. The estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2008 is about $224,759.

Hancock Schools

Two four-year positions ending June 30, 2012: Candidates are Dale J. Kero and Dean Woodbeck. One partial term position ending June 30, 2010: Candidates are Richard Barrette, Laverne Chapin and Timothy E. Seaton. Also a bonding proposal not to exceed $8,820,000 for the purpose of erecting, furnishing and equipping additions to the high school building, re-equipping school buildings and other improvements.

Franklin Township

Residents in Precinct 1, 2 and 4 may vote on Hancock Public School board openings and bonding proposal. Also a bonding proposal for a new sanitary sewer system, borrowing the sum not to exceed $995,000 payable 40 years from date of issue.

Houghton-Portage Township Schools

Two four-year positions ending June 30, 2012: Brad Baltensperger and Nels Sy Christopherson. Also an operating millage proposal allowing the school district to levy the statutory rate of 18 mills. The estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2008 is about $19,365.



Lake Linden-Hubbell Public Schools

Two four-year positions ending June 30, 2012: Candidate is Jeffrey Steven Dennis. Also a bonding proposal not to exceed $3.5 million for the purpose of equipping and re-equipping the high school and the elementary school. Also an operating millage proposal allowing the school district to levy the statutory rate of 18 mills. The estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2008 is about $39,000.

Stanton Township Public Schools

One four-year position ending June 30, 2012: Candidate is Jill Efraimson.

KEWEENAW

COUNTY

No separate ballot issues in townships. Some voters in Gay will vote in the Lake Linden-Hubbell Public Schools election; some voters in Copper Harbor will vote in the Public Schools of Calumet-Laurium-Keweenaw election.

BARAGA COUNTY

Arvon Township Schools

One partial term position ending June 30, 2010: Candidate is Nancy A. Soli.

Baraga Area Schools

Two four-year positions ending June 30, 2012: Candidates are Anni Gregor and William Jondreau.

L’Anse Area Schools

Two four-year positions ending June 30, 2012: Candidates are Jason A. Ayres and Anne T. Koski.

ONTONAGON COUNTY

Ewen-Trout Creek Schools

One four-year position ending June 30, 2012: Candidates are John A. Pinkerton and Pat Kitzman. One partial term position ending June 30, 2010: Candidate is Lisa Nordine.

Also a bonding proposal not to exceed $425,000 for the purpose of purchasing school buses and repairing sidewalks, and an operating millage proposal allowing the school district to levy the statutory rate of 18 mills. The estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2008 is about $118,206.

Ontonagon Area Schools

Two four-year positions ending June 30, 2012: Candidate is Frank Wardynski. Also a bonding proposal not to exceed $4,390,010 for the purpose of equipping and furnishing the middle and high school building, among various projects.
