Kenneth Mikko
AHMEEK — Kenneth Mikko, 63, of Ahmeek, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at the Omega House in Houghton after a battle with cancer.
He was born in Laurium on November 13, 1944, a son of Gust and Laura (Whitford) Mikko.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Larry.
He is survived by a son, Kenneth Mikko, Jr.; a daughter, Mary Kay Isles; a granddaughter, Bonnie Peters; a great-granddaughter, Ashlea Peters; a brother, William Mikko; sisters, Florence Clouthier and Janet Buschell; and former wife and special friend, Mary Paulson; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ken attended Calumet High School. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years. After the Navy, he worked on the Great Lakes ore boats, mined for C&H, worked for local construction companies, and his last work was for the Isle Royale National Park Service until ill health forced him to retire.
Ken was a true outdoorsman, spending many happy hours in the woods and on the rivers. He was an avid fisherman, especially enjoying fishing in the local rivers, such as fishing for steelhead in the Tobacco River. He also enjoyed deer hunting and enjoyed trapping.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.
