Crash victims identified

HOUGHTON — The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department Sunday released the names of the victims of Friday morning’s fatal crash at the corner of Onkola’s Corner Road and the Chassell-Painesdale Road.

Killed in the accident were driver George Russell DeRosier, 35, of Painesdale and his passenger Kevin Richard Kyllonen, 37, also of Painesdale. The Houghton County medical examiner confirmed the victims’ identities, according to a sheriff’s office press release.

The crash occured when DeRosier’s car, heading northbound on the Chassell-Painesdale Road ran through an intersection, hitting a power pole guide wire and a tree before catching on fire.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office.

The office reported the car was a General Motors product, but they have not yet been able to identify the model.
