Dorothy Knight

CALUMET — Dorothy Knight went to sleep at home in Calumet on Sunday evening and awoke in Heaven with her Lord and her beloved husband, Sonny.

Dorothy, or “Doe” to those who knew her best, was born on December 30, 1935, in Toronto, Ontario, to the late Reginald and Mary Gilbert.

She married Sonny Knight in Sudbury, Ontario on March 9, 1957.

Dorothy’s life was committed first to serving God, and then to loving and caring for her husband, children and grandchildren. Her greatest accomplishments were in her relationships, and her greatest joys were found in time spent with her dear friends and family. One never left Dorothy’s home hungry and rarely escaped without an earful of country gospel music and a cup of tea.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents; and her husband, Sonny Knight.

She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her two daughters, Pamela (Steve) Mays of Saginaw Township, Mich., Nancy (Mike) Sherman of St. Peters, Mo.; one son, Brian (Amy) Knight of Lake Linden; nine grandchildren who knew and loved her as Grandma, Mugga or Nonnie, Ian Mays, Erin Mays, Evan Sherman, Emily Sherman, Sam Sherman, Abby Knight, Alex Knight, Clara Knight and Marshall Knight; one brother, John (Georgina) Gilbart; five sisters, June (Gene) Kutney, Ena King, Linda (Tom) Clark, Beth Gauley, and Pat (Paul) Cummings; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Visitation will be held at the Deisler Funeral Home in Saginaw on Friday, May 16, 2008, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the Hopevale Church. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Oakwood Memorial Mausoleum.

A memorial service will be held at Bethany Baptist Church in Dollar Bay on Monday, May 19, at 5 p.m. Friends may call at the church from 4 to 5 p.m.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be given to Mexico Missions Project, c/o Bethany Baptist Church, P.O. Box 387, Dollar Bay, MI 49922.

Dorothy will be sadly missed by all her friends and family.
