Suspect in Custody
Person of interest in L'Anse robbery held on unrelated chargeBy Dan Schneider DMG writer
L’ANSE — Police have a suspect in custody in a robbery that took place early Friday morning.
Friday afternoon the L’Anse Police Department searched a residence in Chaudieres trailer park, the same neighborhood where they responded to a robbery at another residence shortly after 3 a.m. Friday.
“There’s no formal charges yet,” L’Anse Police Chief Mike LaBerge said Friday. “Early this afternoon we executed a search warrant and pretty much we were fruitful in our search.”
He said following the search, the department was able to put “our prime suspect” in the robbery in custody on charges not related to Friday morning’s robbery. LaBerge did not elaborate on the charges the suspect is being held on.
“We feel confident we have our suspect,” LaBerge said. “We see charges coming in the near future.”
He did not give further details about the suspect or the circumstances surrounding the search.
“Things went well today, that’s all I can say,” he said.
When police responded to the robbery report early Friday morning, they met with an 86-year-old female who said she was confronted by the suspect, who demanded money. Police said the victim was assaulted and sustained minor injuries but did not want to go to the hospital.
Information was not yet available at press time about the amount of money taken in the robbery.
