Steve P. Burich

HOUGHTON — Steve P. Burich, 93, a former resident of the Douglas House Apartments, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 17, 2008, with his family at his side, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where he had been a patient for the past two years.

Mr. Burich was born July 31, 1914, in Dodgeville, a son of the late Frank and Pauline (Herlevich) Burich. As a child, he attended the Houghton Schools.

Steve worked as a merchant marine, retiring after 30 years of sevice. He resided in Detroit for three years prior to entering the merchant marines, Seattle, Wash., Portland, Ore., and San Francisco, Calif. before moving back to the Copper Country in retirement over 30 years ago.

Mr. Burich was confirmed in the Catholic faith in Houghton and was a member of the Merchant Marines Seaman Union.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three sisters, Mary Pintar, Fran Starin, and Ann Starin; and a brother, Frank Burich.

Surviving are his sister, Pauline Jackovich of Wixom, Mich.; brothers, Matt Burich of Muskegon, Mich., George Burich of Hancock; sister-in-law, Florence Burich of Dodgeville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services for Steve will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at the Plowe Funeral Home in Houghton with Fr. John Martignon to officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.

Friends may call on Tuesday morning, May 20, 2008, from 10 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

The Plowe Funeral Home in Houghton is assisting the family with arrangements.
