Joan Sundquist

HOUGHTON — Joan Sundquist, 77, a resident of Houghton, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 18, 2008, at the Omega House in Houghton where she had been a resident patient for the past week.

She was born on January 26, 1931, in Salo Location, a daughter of the late Oscar and I. Elizabeth (Maki) Pike. As a child, she was raised in the Hancock area and graduated from Hancock High School where she met her future husband.

On September 2, 1950, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Fred Sundquist. Together, the couple resided in various cities in the Midwest such as Altoona, Wis. and Medford, Wis. They moved back to the Copper Country in 1995 to make their home in Houghton.

Mrs. Sundquist was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock.

Joan will always be remembered for her personality and for being able to meet strangers and become friends with them quickly.

Surviving are her husband, Fred Sundquist of Houghton; her children, Colleen Sundquist of Pebble Beach, Calif., Mark (Jan) Sundquist of Munising, Roger Sundquist of Waukesha, Wis., Becky (Rob) Sundquist-Murray of Pinole, Calif., DeDe (John) Strama of Medford, Wis.; her grandchildren, Dena, Rafael, Derek, Trenna, Eric, Raya and Taylor; her great-grandchild, Logan; sisters, Honey (Ken) Enzor of Lougen, Tenn., Vivian Rice of Boulder City, Nev., brother, Marvin (Shirley) Pike of Lower Michigan; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services for Joan will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2008, at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock with Rev. Jimalee Jones to officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.

Friends may call on Thursday, May 22, 2008, from 12 noon until time of services at the church.
