HOUGHTON — The cause of an apartment fire in downtown Houghton Tuesday afternoon is unknown.
The fire, in an apartment building above the Ambassador Restaurant, was reported at about 2:27 p.m., said Houghton Fire Department Chief Jim Lightfoot. The department was on the scene for about an hour.
Lightfoot said the fire did only minimal damage to the apartment.
Lightfoot said he called the Upper Peninsula Power Co. to check some wires, but nothing was found pertaining to the fire. “We were told there was a grill, but it was ice cold, so that didn’t start it,” he said.
