Houghton — We have all noticed increases in the cost of almost everything due to the incredible rise in oil prices. However replacement cartridges for your printer are one expense that can be cut in half if you shop at Cartridges and More in Houghton.
Cartridges and More, located in the Red Ridge Plaza, sells OEM, remanufactured and compatible inkjet and toner cartridges for all makes and models of printers, including HP, Lexmark, Dell, Canon, Epson, Brother, Xerox and more.
Store manager David Skotarczyk says, “Remanufactured or compatible inkjet and toner cartridges perform just as well as their expensive OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) counterparts. Inkjet refills are typically $12.50 which saves you up to 60 percent when compared to new OEM inkjet cartridges. We also remanufacture toner cartridges and drum units for laser printers. Businesses can save substantial money on their in-house printing costs by using remanufactured and compatible cartridges.”
According to Mr. Skotarczyk, not only does remanufacturing a used cartridge leave a little extra green in your wallet, but it’s better for the environment. “Every second, eight cartridges are thrown away in the U.S. alone, totaling more than 300 million plastic printer cartridges a year that are dumped into our landfills.”
“Not only does it take about a thousand years for this plastic to decompose,” he continued, “but as with anything made of plastic it takes a lot of oil to manufacture and ship replacement cartridges. 2.5 ounces of oil are used in the production of the average inkjet cartridge and 3.5 quarts in the production of the average toner cartridge. That’s just the costs involved in manufacture. Currently, remanufacturing of printer cartridges reduces the world-wide demand for oil by about 300,000 barrels a year, yet only four percent of all cartridges produced are remanufactured.”
With locations in Marquette, Iron Mountain and Houghton, Cartridges and More also boasts the largest local inventory to choose from. “Between the three stores, we have the largest, most complete inventory of cartridges in the area.” Skotarczyk says, “We sell Dell and Xerox cartridges which are not typically found in area stores and we specialize in cartridges for older or less common printers. If what you need isn’t in my inventory here, I can almost always get it here from one of the other stores quickly. Also since our largest supplier is located in Michigan, we can get orders from them pretty fast.”
Buying from another Michigan company isn’t just about shipping times. Cartridges and More believes in buying locally whenever possible.
“A vast majority of our purchased inventory is made in Michigan, and all of our remanufactured cartridges are done in our facilities here in the U.P. of course,” he said.
Customer satisfaction is important, which is why they offer a 100 percent guarantee on their products and services. “We back up our work,” he said. “If it doesn’t work, we’ll replace it free.”
In the near future, Skotarczyk said he and the business’s technical assistance specialist, Doug Jarvi, are looking to get into computer repair and graphic design work. “We handle all of the network and computer issues for the company out of this facility. We also produce most of the marketing and sales materials here. People see us working and ask if we can do things for them, like repair their computers or design business cards and signs,” he said.
