Former NFL player, arrested, charged

By GARRETT NEESE
POSTED: June 3, 2008
HOUGHTON — A Houghton man, a former NFL player, faces charges of stealing material from a construction firm.

Chuck Klingbeil, 42, is accused of stealing manhole boxes and lids, and steel pipes, belonging to Siler Contracting on May 16. He pleaded not guilty during an arraignment in 97th District Court in Houghton Monday.

The Houghton native played football at Northern Michigan University and in the Canadian Football League before becoming a nose tackle with the Miami Dolphins, playing from 1991 to 1995.

Klingbeil was charged with larceny between $1,000 and $20,000, a five-year felony. He is out on a $1,000 personal recognizance bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary examination on June 16.

Autistic Yoopers Entrap Celebrity! Chuck was probably told he can have the manhole covers and pipes, or the owners probably owed him money, or there was some kind of dummy Yooper common property assumption in place, or they weren't being used, or something otherwise drunken and Yooper-esque. Chuck was one of the coaches at the MTU when I played there. He's a little more abberant than the average 42 year old, but not a real criminal. Besides, that junkie old woodsy drunkard UP is really full of some waste and consciously leads people into at very least temptation, only to catch them, flip the script and act like the pious do-gooders. I suspect the classic Houghton COunty bait and switch. All over some metal scraps. I thought that was supposed to be the richest country in the world and here they are all arguing like animals over some scraps. Chuck had the money too. The birdseye maple bar in his basement on the Portage, his truck, his pool table, these things are worth more. Do
