J. Jukuri Spa of Houghton to host grand opening celebration Friday

June 11, 2008
The Daily Mining Gazette
OUGHTON — Invigorate your skin with a gentle massage using a sugar or salt scrub. Bundle your tired, sore feet in a sea of warmth while a hot stone massage recharges your senses.

J. Jukuri Spa is the Copper Country’s newest destination for the ultimate spa experience.

“Come in and be pampered and forget about the everyday distractions,” owner Jessica Jukuri said. “Our focus is on providing a true spa experience.”

Jukuri is a Licensed Cosmetologist and Massage Therapist. She opened the doors to J. Jukuri Spa on March 3, along with Licensed Esthetician, Amy Thyer. Together, they are providing professional massage and skincare services in a relaxing and inviting environment.

J. Jukuri Spa is located across from Shopko in the Century 21 office building and offers a full menu of massage therapy, facials, hair removal and body treatments.

On Friday, June 13th, J. Jukuri Spa is hosting a grand opening celebration from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The spa will be open for visitors to tour, ask questions and receive free consultations. There are a variety of specials that will be featured as well, Jukuri said, including $10 off any body treatment through the month of June and all Bioelements professional skincare products will be 20 percent off.

A visit to J. Jukuri Spa is like a vacation for the senses. Guests will find the atmosphere quiet and peaceful with a light backdrop of soft music and the scent of aromatherapy in the air.

“The atmosphere is important,” Thyer said. “We want people to feel relaxed from the minute they come in because when they’re here it’s their time. We’re here for them and that’s the bottom line.”

Clients can choose from a variety of massage therapy including traditional Swedish massage, deep tissue and hot stone massage.

“Massage therapy helps to improve circulation, alleviate migraine tension and the overall condition of the skin,” Jukuri said of the many benefits. “Not only can massage have an immediate effect, but can give long term benefits.” She also believes chiropractic care and massage therapy work well together.

From the menu of skincare services, clients can choose from a variety of customized facials, body wraps and scrubs.

“With the facials and body wraps, it’s always about providing a change in the skin first. Relaxation is something that goes along with that,” Thyer said.

For the full spa experience, Jukuri said, clients are welcome to schedule services back to back.

“So you could spend one hour or four hours here,” she said. “Some clients come in for a massage and a facial directly after. It’s your choice how you want to do it.”

Private spa parties are available for groups of three or more and there is a 10 percent discount off all services. Whether you’re celebrating a wedding, bachelorette party, birthday or simply want to relax with a group of friends, Jukuri said they’ll reserve the place especially for you.

“Invite all of your friends together for an enjoyable day of pampering in our relaxing and comfortable atmosphere,” she said, adding guests are welcome to bring in food and refreshments for their enjoyment.

Jukuri is a 2003 graduate of Chassell High School. In 2004, she graduated from the Institute of Natural Therapies. She then attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette where she earned her degree in cosmetology. While attending NMU, Jukuri worked for a massage therapy business in Marquette.

Thyer, who is originally from Lower Michigan, attended the L’esprit Academy in Livonia, Mich., where she became board certified in esthetics.

Jukuri and Thyer agree it’s important to support other local businesses in the area, which is why clients will find a collection of different business cards in the entryway.

“We like to help businesses that help us,” Jukuri said.

Jukuri and Thyer donate to organizations such as Michigan Technological University and the Copper Country Humane Society.
