CHASSELL - Lolita Longstaff loves sewing just as much as she loves helping brides-to-be plan their special day.

Longstaff is the owner of Lolita's Bridal's Boutique in Chassell. Located at 42051 Willson Memorial Drive, Lolita's Bridal's Boutique is a full-service bridal shop offering fashions for the entire wedding party, including styles for the bride and groom, bridesmaids, mother of the bride and flower girl. Wedding accessories, including shoes, jewelry and invitations can also be found at Lolita's Bridal's Boutique, making planning for that special day an enjoyable experience.

"I enjoy learning about what exactly the customer would like and I love to create things," said Longstaff, a professional seamstress with 48 years of design experience. "Ever since I was a little girl I've enjoyed sewing."

Originally of Spain, Longstaff has taken her talent all over the world alongside her husband who was in the military. She's opened shops in Germany, Spain, France, Turkey and California before moving to the Copper Country where she opened Lolita's Design in Calumet. On May 15, Longstaff took over the bridal shop in Chassell.

"We've doubled the inventory - bridal gowns, items for the bridesmaids, mother of the bride, shoes, jewelry, everything," she said, noting she also carries a private collection from Paris.

Maggie Sottero, Raylia, Jessica McClintock, Alfred Angelo, Jordan, Alexia Designs and Night Scenes are a handful of the many popular designers offered at Lolita's Bridal's Boutique.

Wedding parties are welcome to bring in fresh ideas as well, she said.

"Some girls have asked me to combine two styles from two different magazines," she said. "So, I took a piece of paper and a pencil, and I started to design."

Longstaff attended design school in Spain, where she learned to create patterns for a variety of styles of clothing for children up through adult sizes.

"You have to know the patterns in order to sew good," she said.

Through the month of July, Lolita's Bridal's Boutique is celebrating its grand opening with specials for both the bride and bridesmaids. Brides can receive $200 off of their bridal gown while bridesmaids receive 10 percent discount on their dresses.

Assisting Longstaff in the boutique are employees Carol and Amber.

Carol said what she enjoys most about her job, besides "working with Lolita," is seeing the expressions on the faces of the brides.

"I love watching the faces on the girls when they're trying on a dress," she said. "Being a mom, you know that's one of the happiest moments."

Amber said she's even made new friends with the brides.

"It's such a small area, you just get to know one another," she said.

Above all, what's most important to Longstaff is that her customers come in the shop and feel comfortable.

"We always show respect and are honest with our customers," she said. "Honesty is very important to our customers."

Carol agreed.

"We will always give you an honest opinion on a dress," she said.
