HOUGHTON - Finding time to work out is a snap thanks to the area's newest fitness facility.
Snap Fitness, a 24-hour fitness club, is now open in Houghton.
Located in the Redridge Plaza at 850 W. Sharon Avenue, Snap Fitness offers a more affordable alternative for busy individuals who want to stay active and fit without sacrificing time and convenience.
Snap Fitness owners, Brad and Erin Halonen, far right, are seen with employees Steve Aho, far left, and Craig Halonen. Snap Fitness, a 24-hour fitness club, is now open in Houghton.
"We're an alternative to the full-service clubs," owner Brad Halonen said. "We offer the same state-of-the-art exercise equipment, but we are able to keep our membership costs low by eliminating some services that a lot of on-the-go fitness club members may not need."
Memberships start at $34.95 per month.
"A great benefit for Snap Fitness members is that there are no contracts to commit to, and memberships can be frozen anytime," Halonen said. Snap Fitness offers the latest equipment, including ellipticals, treadmills, cycles, strength machines and free weights along with four flat screen televisions for entertainment.
"We have everything that you'll need to get a total body workout," Halonen said.
Unlimited, 24-7 tanning for $15 a month and personal training services are also available to Snap Fitness members.
As part of its grand opening, Snap Fitness is inviting the community to try out the facility for one week free.
Because Snap Fitness is a 24-hour facility, Halonen said security is important.
The club remains locked at all times, and members enter the club with an electronic keycard. The security system includes surveillance cameras, emergency alarms in the club and portable emergency alarms that members can keep with them during their workouts.
Having a 24-hour fitness center available makes it easy for members to keep up with a regular workout routine, Halonen added.
"It's hard to achieve your goals if you only get to work out once or twice a week because of busy schedules," he said. "That's what's nice about our 24-7 facility. It's convenient and it allows you to be more consistent with your workouts."
Free equipment orientations will be offered to members who are interested and/or maybe need a refresher on the latest equipment. Each piece of equipment has a picture tutorial demonstrating proper usage making it very user friendly. Members can also receive a free personal fitness consultation (a $100 value) from a personal trainer, Halonen said. Snap Fitness is a national franchise of fitness centers. There are more than 950 Snap Fitness clubs open in the United States and Canada, with another 800 coming soon, Halonen said.
By using their access card, Snap Fitness members have access to all Snap Fitness locations across the country.
Additional Snap Fitness membership perks include an online personal Web page, designed to help individuals track progress and achieve better health and fitness results. Through the personal Web page, Snap Fitness offers online equipment tutorials, a customizable personal wellness plan and online nutrition and meal planning is available.
Members can also visit their personal Web page to be involved in Snap's fitness adventures and rewards programs. With all of these features and benefits, Halonen said he hopes that Snap will better serve local residents.
"Snap Fitness has been very successful in cities across the country," he said. "The affordability and convenience that Snap offers is something that I'm very excited to offer area residents, and I want to invite everybody to come in and give us a try."
