Ripley E. Weber
HOUGHTON - Ripley E. Weber, 92, of Houghton, died on Friday afternoon, August 8, 2008 at his home.
He was born on August 11, 1915 to the late Edward and Mary (Rogers) Weber.
After graduating from Houghton High School, he and his brother, Cliff, joined in their fathers' tire recapping business on Shelden Avenue in Houghton during World War II. That business later became Weber's Sporting Goods and also Weber's Clothing Store. Ripley became the sole owner after the deaths of his father and brother, finally selling the business when he retired.
He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Hancock and sang in the church choir.
He was also a member of the Copper Country Lodge of Masons and the Marquette Ahmed Temple and Shrine Organization.
He will be remembered for his generous and kind personality, helping those in need whenever he could.
He is survived by a nephew, Chuck (Mary) Weber of Rochester, Minn.; a niece, Mona (John) Tuomi of Spring Hill, Fla.; 10 great nieces and nephews, Scott, Mark, Phil, Lori, Nicole, Danielle, Gregory, Guy, David and Krista; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Rupert to officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.
The O'Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock is assisting with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the church in memory of Ripley Weber.
